Feature 5

We at SIG are very excited offer the SIG FOUR-STAR 40 ARF, and it is back with a NEW NAME and some significant upgrades.

The original FOUR-STAR 40 is now called the 4-STAR 54 EG ARF. The "54" in the names denotes the wingspan of the airplane. They are shorter! Clipping the wing has been a favorite modification that Four-Star pilots have been doing themselves, cutting-off the last rib bay at the tip of each wing panel. The clipped wing improves the roll rate and overall maneuverability, with no loss of the legendary Four-Star stability and slow flight characteristics. And, it still lands like a trainer!

The "EG" in the name means the airplane is designed to accommodate either Electric or Glow Power. Fly with a 2-stroke glow engine, a 4-stroke glow engine, or a brushless outrunner electric motor and lipo battery. It's your choice!

All the control surfaces (ailerons, elevator, and rudder) have been enlarged for better control response at slow speeds. The new 4-STAR canopy has been streamlined for a sleeker, more aggressive appearance. This is another change that many Four-Star pilots have been doing themselves - replacing the original "high bubble" canopy with a lower one. However, if you still prefer the traditional bubble-shaped Four-Star 40 canopy, you can still get that as an option. They both still fit. Available in Red or Yellow.

Other upgrades include a molded fiberglass cowling and a removable hatch on top of the fuselage for quick access to the battery/tank compartment. Also, the top of the fuselage between the canopy and the fin (the turtle deck) is now fully sheeted with balsa for smoother appearance and greater strength.

We are very excited about the changes being made to the 4-STARs, and we hope you are too. There are only limited quantities available in 2013. Order your 4-STAR ARF today to ensure you are flying newest ARF version of America's favorite "second plane!"

Good Overall RC Plane
Good plane except the fuel tank. Normally with ARFs I throw the tank away and install a Dubro or Sullivan tank. Even though the tank looked "iffy" I decided to give it a try. After the 4th flight I saw fuel dripping out of the bottom. The tank was leaking and the inside was wet. I dried it an sealed it best as possible and installed a Sullivan 8oz tank. It fits well but had to open the hole in the firewall at the top a little. I have had many Sig planes and now also have a Somethin Extra that I built from a kit and love. The 4 Star 54 is a fun sport plane. I have an OS 52 SF and plenty of power unless you want to hover it. You can't go wrong with Sig, just throw the tank away.

Fantastic all the way around. SIG's customer service is 2nd to none. The plane is a dream to loves to float on landings..I chose an older OS 50 Max for power. ARF quality is excellent. Super fast shipping. The airframe platform is tried and true..based on the original 4star forty. I may someday buy the 120 size for a gas engine. I'm sure it will be just a good as the smaller versions. The only thing I changed was the hinges (I'm old school) I replaced the kit one with Dubro regular hinges and pinned them in, as well as I always seal the gaps on the control surfaces. I believe that is adds better control to the surfaces. I would highly recommend this plane to anyone who has mastered a trainer. Excellent choice for a 2nd plane.

This is my second 4-Star 54. I wrecked the first one flying inverted close to the ground. I learned to fly models with a SIG Kadet. The 4-Star ARF is an easy build and a great flying plane. It is an excellent second plane because it handles so well. It performs slow flight nicely and is a good aerobatic plane. This is my favorite plane.

I bought one of these arf planes, It flew better than I expected but I will not purchase another. I put a OS.46AX engine in the plane. I flew the plane off a grass field. I was disappointed with the Quality of the balsa. On my one and only dead stick landing the plane came down in deep grass(6"). The plane flipped onto its back and broke its back. I believe that the kit model would have survived such a landing. The balsa on the ARF 54 was so thin and brittle I was not able to repair the plane fuse. I will continue to buy SIG products but no more ARF planes

Good Points, Bad Points
This is a very complete kit, right down to the fuel tank and engine mounts for nitro application. Sig needs to leave the decals off for application after using the iron as the need for extensive wrinkle removal is made impossible over the decals. They don't like the iron. Yes, there were many wrinkles but they came out as long as they weren't under the decals. I was impressed by the exact fitting canopy, it was perfect. The wheel pants were also nicely finished.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 4-Star 54. It fell victim to elevator/horizontal stab flutter. It did have a .55 on it, so it was overpowered. I feel the horizontal stab on these planes really needs to be sturdier. I have not ruled out replacing it with another 4-Star. But if I do, I will replace the horizontal and vertical stab with my own scratch built ones.

great flight
This is my third plane and so far my favorite. This is my first arf, but I marveled at the craftsmanship of the all wood construction and the beautiful monokote job. I pulled some of the stickers off, per my taste, but other than that its gorgeous. It flies very well also. It feels well balanced. It has great slow flight characteristics so you can really walk it in for landing. Your first time it may float down the runway a bit, but you just simply learn to manage that next go around. You can do some aggressive acrobatics with it, and you can also simply carve beautiful lines. Flies great even with a gopro suck on it

I have not flown this plane myself yet. I am still learning to fly. Come spring i will be ready. My instructor and and other experienced flyers have flown it five times and are highly impressed by its stability and looks. They tell me that this will be a great transition plane for me to fly. I am highly pleased with the way it looks and how easy it was to assemble. Thanks for a great model!! Don

Cheif Test Pilot of Hargrave Air
The Four Star is the first plane i have purchased from SIG. Very impressed with the packaging and the instructions that came with the airplane. I am in the assembly process and continue to be impressed with the quality of all the components and the fit up of the various pieces on the airplane. I am confident that this will become one of my favorite airplanes to fly. I would like to see SIG do a military aircraft such as the Thunderbolt. Great job on the Four Star.

Great ARF
I bought this ARF to replace an older 4 Star that I bought used. The older plane used stick construction on the turtleback and was easily cracked. The ARF turtleback uses sheet construction. The new ARF is better built and stronger. The parts fit with no modification. The covering had some wrinkles but was no worse then another ARF from a different company that I had built. The wing is attached in front by tabs on each wing half leading edge. The tab on the left wing half arrived cracked in shipment but was easily repaired. I have not maidened the ARF yet but if it flys like the older model it should be a fun and reliable plane.

4-Star 54 ARF
I am very happy with the new 4 star 54. It arrived well boxed and all pieces were counted, every thing was there. The plane went together very nicely. The covering required lots of ironing to get the wrinkle out, but everything fit perfectly. I can't wait to get in the air.
