The Airplane that "WROTE THE BOOK" On R/C Aerobatics - Nothing Flies Like A Hog!

This legendary model got R/C aerobatics off the ground in 1957. As the first successful low-wing R/C model, it swept the top four places at the 1958 Nationals and pioneered the unlimited aerobatic capability we take for granted today. Obviously, the ASTRO HOG is no longer competitive with today s high-tech pattern ships, but it does offer the modern sport flier amazing aerobatic performances in a super stable, easy-to-fly model.

The ASTRO-HOG will perform any maneuver in the book, yet it flies slow enough to let you enjoy it! So gentle, some people have used it as a primary trainer. Ideal for 4-stroke engines!

Rating Good vintage kit.
This is a classic SIG kit. Mine arrived complete and well organized with no damage to any of the parts. I am about 95% complete with the actual building of the wood structure. My biggest comment on the kit thus far would be the die cut parts and wood selection. Most of the lite ply parts were not cut all the way through, requiring some extra work to remove them and then clean the parts up for assembly. I realize this is an older design but really could use some updating. Laser cut parts would be great. It would also eliminate the cutting of 1/2" balsa from printed sheets. The airplane builds heavier than it needs to due to some pretty dense balsa, the design, and the use of 3/32" sheeting throughout. I am not altering it too much except for all of the balsa used to enclose the engine compartment. I am leaving the bottom off and open to reduce some weight in the front. I also made the bottom 1/2" under the tank a magnetic hatch for easy access. The instructions and plans are excellent! I plan on powering my Hog with both an Enya 60 and 80 4 stroke engines. I had to mount the engine on the very end of the enclosed engine mounts for carburetor clearance. I can't wait to get it to the field!

Rating astro hog
I started building and flying rc planes in 1984 when I was first plane I built was a kadet mark 2.i have always liked the quality of kits from sig.the astro hog kit is an older design and the building of it is old school as well.such as sanding the leading edges of the wings along with trailing edges.there is a lot of hand work to assemble this kit so it is not for the beginner.i always wanted an astro hog.i got out of rc planes for about 15 years as to having a family and better things to do.but now I have the time to do it again. Sig is a pinnacle in the rc airplane world always has been.I cant imagine the airplane rc world without them.i prefer to build sig my youngest son just showed interest in rc airplanes I got him a kadet mark 2 to build as it is a bit of nostalgia for me.i only have one kit left I always wanted to build a hog always with sig kits the balsa and wood in the kit is of the highest quality.i am seeing a lot of arf's in the airplane world but I still prefer to build my own.i am looking forward to flying this plane this spring.and seeing my son fly his sig as well.
