SIG Rascal 80 EG ARF

The Ultimate SIG RASCAL - Debuted at 2016 Toledo Weak Signals RC Show!

The SIG RASCAL 80 EG ARF is more than a redesigned RASCAL 72. This is an all-new plane from SIG, yet it still features the loved characteristics of the Rascal, including its legendary great looks, superior SIG craftsmanship, and dreamlike flight manners. It has an 80” wingspan to provide the light wing loading Rascals are famous for.  It is the perfect midsize RC ARF airplane, yet it qualifies for your favorite “big bird” and giant scale events. The SIG RASCAL 80 EG ARF is a great choice as leisure flyer, tow plane, advanced trainer or float plane. The 'EG' design is made to accept either an electric motor or glow engine. Pick your power!

The assembly of the SIG RASCAL 80 EG ARF is straight-forward. In typical SIG fashion, the illustrated step-by-step instruction manual guides you quickly from box-to-flight. The handcrafted wood airframe is CAD-drawn and laser cut to fit perfectly.  If you opt for electric power, the removable hatch makes battery swaps a breeze, and the hatch latches securely to keep everything in its place. The airplane is professionally covered with premium UltraCote® transparent red or blue film with white trim to show off the classic all-wood framework. This ARF comes with a fiberglass cowl, wheel pants, molded windshield and side windows, steerable leaf-spring tailwheel assembly and traditional SIG Rascal decals.

If you are looking to experience the Rascal Legend in a midsize RC plane, the SIG RASCAL 80 EG ARF will give you years of enjoyment with a healthy dose of thrills!

A new Rascal!
All I can say is WOW! The new Rascal 80 embodies its larger Rascal 110 Sibling in a smaller package! I love the two-piece wing, as it makes transporting the plane easy. I set mine up using the recommended electric equipment, and the battery hatch makes battery changes a delight. SIG has done a great job redesigning the Rascal 80!

SIG Rascal 80 EG ARF
Yes, I second that WOW! This is a high quality ARF kit (the covering job is amazing) and many little extras have all been done at the factory, which means less assembly time overall. 8" larger WS than the Rascal 40 or 72EG, and the fuse is a full 1" wider than those also (easier to get your hands into for hooking stuff up). This a a real class act, and if you're a Rascal lover like me you will really enjoy this plane. Just started assembling mine (with the electric setup) so first flight is a ways off, but that will be another review.

Very nice ARF. Went together without any difficulty. Waiting for better weather for the maiden flight but am certain it will be a good flyer. I had a Kadet Senior Sport before the Rascal and it was a good performer. Mr Mo

SIG Rascal 80 EG ARF
ARF is very well built. Went together very easy. The most time went into the pull pull rudder but once done I could do it again in no time. I am using a OS fs70 surpass II with a APC 12X7 prop. The engine provides plenty of power, not unlimited vertical but it will climb for a long time. I had 2 minor issues. First was the stock fuel tank leaked at the plug. I was unable to repair and replaced with aftermarket tank from sullivan. Second was the Canopy / hatch. Throttling up the engine on the bench caused the canopy / hatch to lift off at the top. Not sure if it is from vibration from engine. I had to use tape to hold it down until I can ad some additional magnets to the top of the windshield area. Over all the plane flies great, easy knife edge and flies great inverted. Lands with ease, but will keep floating by if your idle is too high. Slows to a crawl and just drops the nose in a stall. I have the blue and white and it shows up very nice in the sky.

Builder/Pilot
This Rascal 80 is one of the nicest all around ARF's I have ever seen. The craftsmanship is impeccable. The materials are top notch. The instructions are clear and concise. The flight performance is nothing less than you would expect from a Sig Rascal. The only negative is the entry clearance to the battery box. Forget using a 5 or 6 cell pack unless you install the battery from the rear and don't use the battery box, or buy one of the three packs listed in the RC Groups review. I overcame this problem by using a China Hobby Line 4 cell 4500 mAh lipo. It slides into the battery box very nicely only having to remove about 1/8" of the top front of the battery box. Coupled with a Hobby People G46 4250 650KV motor, 60 Amp ESC, and 13x6.5E APC prop, flight performance is awesome. At approximately 700 watts, this power combo has more than enough power. Flight times easily exceed 10 minutes with power to spare. If you want even more wattage, try using a 14X7 prop and 80 Amp ESC to boost power to over 900 watts. Not needed, but if you like to hover, it will do the trick.
