SIG Somethin' Xtra EG ARF - It's Back!

In 1999, SIG introduced an RC plane so dynamically different it changed the way many people thought about radio-control aerobatics. Part "fun fly" design and part "precision aerobatics," the SIG SOMETHIN' EXTRA was totally unique and led the way into the 3D extreme aerobatics of today. The SOMETHIN' XTRA can be set-up on low rates to fly as sedately as a trainer, or switch to high rates and roll so quickly you can't count them. Enter your snap rolls and spins with instant recovery confidence. It's no wonder that the SOMETHIN' XTRA became the favorite everyday airplane of thousands of RC'ers worldwide.

After a long absence, and backed by tremendous demand, the Almost-Ready-To-Fly (ARF) version of the SOMETHIN' EXTRA is coming back...and we guarantee you'll like the newest version even better than ever.

  • SIG "EG" Series - suitable for Electric or Glow power
  • Beautifully handcrafted all-wood ARF. Engineered for quick assembly with a minimal number of components. All parts are CAD-drawn, laser cut, and jig assembled, so everything fits the way it should.
  • Professionally cover with premium UltraCote covering material
  • Magnetic top hatch for easy access to the battery/fuel tank compartment
  • Aluminum Landing Gear and Fiberglass Cowling and Wheel Pants
  • 2-Piece Wing Design with a strong Aluminum Tube Wing Joiner

Spot on. If instructions are followed than the first flight is flawless. Flight characteristics are great and even at the instructed low rates it is very acrobatic. Love this plane!I has taken a few passes to get the wrinkles under control.

Somethin' Xtra
This is a great remake of the original Somethin' Xtra. It's a great sport flyer that you can take out whenever you have batteries charged. It flies like it is on rails. Very smooth and precise. The green color scheme looks amazing in the air, and it is very easy to maintain orientation with the checkered board print on the bottom. I am very impressed by this airplane and would recommend it to any intermediate pilot!

Expert flyer
1st excellent packaging, no damage at all, which is a great start. All components are of high quality, even the hardware. All items assembled nicely, except the wing tube, much to tight fitting into the wings, the fuse fit was fine. The spinner was no where near turn, so I added mine own. Finally the test fight, which was excellent, once it was all trimmed out its a great flying plane!! Try one, you'll like it!!

Great structure, built well
I know it will fly great my son had one years ago built from a kit. I'm sorry to say that the covering was disappointing I have never seen so many wrinkles in any other ARF. It took so much heat to tighten the covering I thought I would melt it. Some I couldn't get out but atleast they're flat. I have a feeling it will wrinkle again in a few weeks. I know SIG quality is usually better.

Great flying airplane. It can be set up to fly like a ordinary airplane with aerobatics.

Good - but Hot and Heavy
Packing and build were good. Powered mine with a Motrolfly 3625-650 motor and an 85A Mantis ESC. This motor/ESC combo produces 1000 watts on 4S and 1300 watts on 6S. The plane flies well on 4S with either a 14x12 or 15x10 APC. I fly pattern mostly (SebArt MythoS), and thought this plane would be a good "sport flyer" alternative when I want to just fly. It delivers well, very responsive. My criticism would be limited to a few items. First, this is a very heavy plane for the size. Second, as has been mentioned in other reviews, the covering requires quite a bit of work to keep it anywhere near tight, on an ongoing basis. Third, the placement of the ESC in the location recommended in the instructions is not workable. That location provides no air movement over the ESC for cooling. I'm using a slotted spinner to provide adequate cooling over the motor, but none of that air makes it past the multiple firewalls to the ESC. I'm still exploring an alternative, but all seem to mean I'll have to remove part of the firewall and open ventilation ports in the fuselage covering. Finally, the battery tray provided is a neat idea, but doesn't work well in practice. This tray places my batteries too far forward to achieve anywhere near a CG balance point without loading the tail with lead weights. As mentioned earlier, this plane is already quite heavy for the size, so I don't use the battery tray. Overall, I'm pleased with this airplane but would recommend that Sig do some more homework on addressing the weight, ventilation, and CG issues related to electric power of this model. Aero-Works did this with some of their popular glow/gas ARFs and offer them as "Light" versions.

SIG Something Xtra
i love this plane. first as with any arf i did some reglueing. landing gear really sturdy, we fly on a rough field. I have one plane with novarossi r.46cr sport engine with 12x4 prop. It will fly really slow or real fast. The other plane has satio .56 with 12x4 prop. I should have gone with the satio .62. I touch and go these planes all day long.

Love it
I am new to the hobby but own 3 SIG ARF's. Somethin Xtra on low rates is easy to fly and lands itself. On High rates it is an adrenaline ride.
