SIG 4-STAR 64 EG ARF

Some of the biggest news in the RC ARF industry in 2013 was the return of the SIG FOUR-STAR 60 ARF to production. And, not only is back, but it is back in a big way with major upgrades!

The first is the name change. The old FOUR-STAR 60 is now called the 4-STAR 64 EG. The "64" in the names indicates the wingspan of the airplane. Yes, the new 4-STAR 64 is shorter! Clipping the wing has been a common modification that Four-Star pilots have been doing for years, cutting off the last rib bay at the tip of each wing panel. The clipped wing improves the roll rate and overall maneuverability, with no loss of stability and slow flight characteristics. The 4-STAR 64 EG ARF still lands like a trainer!

The "EG" in the name means the airplane is designed to accommodate either Electric or Glow Power. Fly with a 2-stroke glow engine, a 4-stroke glow engine, or a brushless outrunner electric motor and lipo battery. It'll fly any way you like it!

All the control surfaces (ailerons, elevator, and rudder) have been enlarged for better control response at slow speeds.

The canopy has been streamlined for a sleeker, modern design. That's another change that many Four-Star pilots have been doing themselves - replacing the original "high bubble" canopy for a lower one. However, if you still prefer the traditional bubble shaped Four-Star 40 canopy, you can still get that as an option. They both fit perfectly! Available in Red or Yellow.

Other upgrades include a molded fiberglass cowling and a removable hatch on top of the fuselage for quick access to the battery/tank compartment. Also the top of the fuselage between the canopy and the fin (the turtle deck) is now fully-sheeted with balsa for smoother appearance and greater strength.

SIG 4-Star EG ARF
I'm very happy with this ARF, mainly because the quality (for this price)is excellent. The service from SIG has also been exceptional. My only gripe is that when I called SIG about replacement parts (I inadvertently damaged one of the wheel pants and needed a replacement), I was told "No parts are currently available for this plane." What? No parts at all?

Nice flying plane but has a design flaw
This is a beautiful plane and fly's great, but there is a structural flaw in the horizontal stab that needs to be fixed. I bought this plane from sig and fell in love with it! quality of plane & hardware was 2nd to none. I had about 3 good flights on it and was flying it the other day in a 15 to 20 mph wind, not to much IMO,and all of a sudden the stab started fluddering and lost control and it crashed. stab failed in 4 places 2 on left side and identical on right side it is obvious it failed in flight uder normal flight. Sig needs to fix this. my plane was a total loss

Review of Sig 4 - Star kit
I got the kit a few weeks ago and it was purchased and delivered in shortest time allowed. Really good quick service. I have been through the contents and find all in good shape, excellent covering and all parts accounted for. I am going to linger over this one even though a ARF. I want to make it real nice and that will only be the case if I mess up for the kit is flawless. I would recommend Sig planes to anyone especially the 4-star. Gary

Everything was beautiful. I have not flown in 30 years. This was my first electric plane. The plane assembled perfectly and flew better then expected.

Great quality - elevator touchy
First I am extremely pleased with the quality of this ARF. The price is fair, and the hardware and build quality is far better than the 6 previous planes I purchased elsewhere at nationally known distributors. My only compliant is that the elevator is very touchy and this is even after I put the elevator pushrod into the servo arm hole closest to the servo. I am now experimenting with using a new computer radio to try using expo to tame this characteristic. I have been in the hobby for almost three years, beginning at age 40. I have encountered many sub-par components and airframes in ARFs and RTFs from the "big boys" as well as a value alternative, and have been really wishing to find something with actually good quality - and at a reasonable price. This Sig is both. My only other wish was that it was manufactured by Sig in USA. Aside from the elevator issue noted above, the plane is very responsive and is clearly my favorite. I am looking to buy more form Sig and just hope they will produce more larger low wing models.

A Excellent Airplane for the cost!!!
I absolutely love this plane! The build was fairly quick and easy to assemble. i put a Magnum GP-65 on it and man does it scream!! The only thing I didn't like was the fuel tank. It has cheap plastic nipples on it for the fuel, pressure, and fill lines. besides that it is a GREAT flying plane!! inverted flight made easy and will do anything you want it to do!! Would recommend this plane to anyone looking for a great intermediate flyer to expert pilots as well!! Thanks to SIG for producing such great products!!!

SIG Four-Star ARF
I just finished my 4 Star 64 in Yellow. It is well built, great overall finish. I had a problem with the fuel tank stopper backplate, it stripped out. I replaced with a new 14oz tank. Easy build. I had to turn the wheel pants around, either the directions are wrong or the holes were drilled wrong where the landing gear screws into fuse. Easy fix. I am using a Saito 100 mounted inverted. The cowling is a must, it looks so nice. Overall a beautifully built plane, you won't be disappointed. Just waiting for good weather to maiden.

4STAR 64 ARF
yes!! I was very satisfied with my airplane.I put an evolution 91 nx in it. it has almost unlimited flight performance. the one thing I thought was kinda cheap on it was the hardware for the fuel tank. I stripped the screw out on the fuel stopper, had to re-tap.

4-STAR 64 ARF
This 4 Star is my 5th kit that I have built for me and a few others. I am a warbird scale builder mostly but like the 4 Star for Sunday sport flying. The only thing I did beyond kit is sheet the turtle deck and spar to leading edge with 1/64 ply. I have a little funny story that goes with this model. I built the left wing half before going on a 17 day trip. Upon returning I built another half, yes, the left one again. My wife says it must be age related.

The return of a classic
The newly re-issued and newly improved 4-Star 64 is a welcome addition to my modeling hangar. The quality is top shelf; the aerodynamic changes from the original make it an even better flyer; and its newer, sleeker looks cause positive comments on the flight line--even though most have seen or flown the old Four Star 60 many times. Happy, happy, happy! For a detailed commentary on the plane, see my detailed review in the October 2013 issue of Flying Models magazine.
