Developed in 1942 to counter the Focke-Wulf 190A, the Mk IX Spitfire was one of the most successful fighter aircraft of World War 2. Seagull's deluxe scale version looks and flies as good as the original. The airframe is conventional built balsa and plywood construction, yet a modern laser-cut design allows the airplane to be kept light. You will find that most of the work has been done for you. The pushrods are pre-made to the correct lengths, the motor mount has been fitted and the hinges are pre-installed and pinned for security.

Seagull Spitfire Mk-IX ARF
Kit has decent markings, parts seem to fit together well. Was damage to wingtip in the form of a puncture hole that was covered over with scotch tape. The customer service dept didn't offer a fix other than to repair it myself. The instruction Manual is very poor.

I just recently purchased the Sig 79.9 inch Spitfire, It was shipped nicely, double boxed, however it did receive a hole, in the box at some point of shipping. Some hardware was apparently lost, but fortunately, no damage to any major parts. I advised Sig Customer Service and they were quick to supply me with an additional hardware pack, at no charge, much to their credit. The plane itself appears to be well built, with adequate glue joints and epoxy glue, used in the critical stress areas. The firewall wall epoxied front and rear, with triangle wood supports, reinforcing the back of the firewall. I have not started the assembly yet, but all the component parts are well built, covered, and sprayed with a flat clear. All the decals are in place. I am happy with what I have seen thus far and I don't anticipate further problems. There are not allot of parts to assemble, much of the work is done for you. It is a fairly big plane, i intend to stay to the high side of the power suggested. The tedious job of hinging, is basically done for you, it is not the usual method of hinging, a long metal rod, is inserted through mating wood projections, from the moving surface and the main wing, stabilizer, etc. Looks good and should reduce turbulence, as opposed, to the more typical double beveled leading edge, of the moving surface. I have high hopes for a good flying model, we will see. I would appear to be a good value for the money, you have to expect an extra charge for shipping, due to its large box.

Seagull Spitfire Mk-IX ARF
The model went together well except for the wing tubes. The aluminum tube was extremely tight requiring extensive sanding of the tubes in the wings. I worked on it several days before it fit loose enough to slide the wings on and off without exerting excessive force. Otherwise it's a great arf kit.
